Passage Planner – Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 October 2026

This policy explains how the Passage Planner app ("the app"), published by Lucky Kat Pty Ltd (ABN 70 691 268 309), trading as Hartshorne Marine ("we", "us"), handles information. It covers the iPhone/iPad app (App Store), the Android app (Google Play) and the web version.

The short version

We do not collect any personal information. The app has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no crash reporting. Everything you enter stays on your device. In-app purchases are handled by Apple or Google, and we never see your name, email address or payment details.

What the app stores on your device

To work offline and remember your choices, the app keeps the following only on your device, in the app's private storage. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else:

  • that you have accepted the planning-only and historical-weather disclaimers, and when;
  • your last departure and arrival ports or marinas, via points and "areas to avoid";
  • your vessel profiles (boat name, polars, speeds) if you save them;
  • display settings (climatology data pack, marina layer, cyclone-season warning);
  • whether you have bought the full app or the optional Updates subscription (a cached copy of what Apple or Google report, so the app also works offline);
  • for owners of the full app, a copy of the data release current when you bought it (climatology, ports, marinas and cyclone data files), so later app updates don't replace it.

You can remove all of this at any time by deleting the app (or, for the web version, clearing the site's data in your browser). We cannot see it, recover it or delete it for you, because we never have it.

The app does not access your location, camera, photos, contacts, microphone or calendar.

In-app purchases

The full app and Updates are bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google process the payment under their own privacy policies:

The app checks what you own on your device, using Apple's StoreKit or Google Play Billing. We do not run a purchase server, and we do not use any third-party subscription service. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple and Google send us aggregated, de-identified sales reports (for example, the number of purchases per country), as they do to every developer.

To manage or cancel a subscription, use your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.

Network use

The app is designed to work offline. The App Store and Google Play versions carry their data inside the app and make no network requests of their own. The only exceptions are the purchase checks above, which go through Apple or Google, and web links you choose to open (for example data-source or licence pages), which open in your browser.

The web version is downloaded from our web host, like any website. The host's servers may record standard technical information (such as IP address, browser type and the time of each request) in their logs to deliver and secure the site. We do not use these logs to identify you, and we do not add any analytics or tracking.

Children

The app is a general-audience tool for sailors. It is not directed at children, and it collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever starts handling personal information (for example a future referral scheme or optional online features), we will update this policy and the App Store and Google Play privacy details before that version is released, and show the change in the app.

Your rights and contact

Because we hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you have a question or a privacy complaint, contact us at garry@hartshornemarine.com. We handle privacy matters in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)). If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Safety note: Passage Planner is for planning purposes only. The final plot must be done on official navigational charts. Weather data is from historical records (climatology/averages), not a forecast.
