Manly is Brisbane's sailing harbour. The breakwalls off the Wynnum–Manly foreshore shelter three big marinas and a handful of clubs: the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, East Coast Marina and the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club marina. Between them there are well over a thousand berths, a couple of travelifts and a slipway. It's the obvious base for Moreton Bay cruising and a common start or finish for deliveries up and down the coast. St Helena Island and the open bay are right on the doorstep, and Manly village is a short walk away.

Getting here

From the north and the Brisbane River, come down the western side of the bay past Wynnum. From Peel Island and the south, it's a short run across Waterloo Bay. The harbour is a 6-knot zone. MSQ's soundings snapshot gives a median of under 2 m around the Manly shore, so watch your depth outside the marked channels.

Recent notices nearby:

  • ⚠ January 2026: a yellow special buoy (Fl Y 2.5s) was laid in Waterloo Bay, east of the harbour.
  • ⚠ February 2026: an anchored pontoon showing Fl Y 2.5s sits off Tingalpa Creek, just south.
  • ⚠ December 2025: a yellow buoy marks a partially submerged vessel at the mouth of Wynnum Creek, just north.
  • MSQ issued advices for fireworks off Darling Point in September 2025 and September 2026. Watch for them.

Anchoring and moorings

The marine park has mooring areas at Wynnum (MGA17), Wynnum Creek (MGA16) and Tingalpa Creek (MGA19). MSQ's maps show anchorages in the bay, but our sources don't give depths, holding or shelter for them. St Helena Island, a few miles offshore, is a green zone (MNP17) with a public jetty and the old convict prison ruins ashore (OpenStreetMap).
